Fire Calls 01-09-2012 to 01-15-2012

The Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to 103 incidents during the period of 1-09-12—-1-15-12 bringing the yearly total to 239 incidents.

1-12-12—Engine 4 was sent to the 1300 block of 13th St. at 12:43 p.m. for an emergency medical service call. Upon arrival the crew encountered a woman in cardiac arrest. CPR was started and an automatic external defibrillator was attached to the patient.  Firefighter John Mang rode with the ambulance to NFMMC to assist in life sustaining measures.
1-12-12— Engine 7 responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 6500 block of N. F. Blvd. at 10:00 p.m.  A man suffered back and neck injuries and was stabilized at the scene before being transported to NFMMC.
1-13-12— A request from the SPCA sent         Engine 3 to the 1600 block of Cleveland Ave. for a report of a dog trapped on a 2nd floor porch at 4:25 p.m.  Using a portable ladder, the crew was able to safely rescue the dog.
1-13-12— A strong electrical odor at CSX–2550 29th St. prompted a full assignment response at 4:36 p.m.  An investigation revealed that snow had blown into a HVAC unit on the roof and shorted a circuit board out. Damage was estimated at $500.
1-14-12– Platoon 2 was called to a structure fire in the 1700 block of Cudaback Ave. at 8:00 p.m. Heavy fire was showing from the basement extending to the 1st floor . Engine 4’s crew–Captain Mike Accetta, Firefighters Chris Bielec, Chris Janese, and Robert Meidenbauer quickly deployed a hoseline to the seat of the fire to knock it down. The cause of the fire cannot be determined yet, but it remains under investigation. Damage is listed at $37,000.
1-15-12—A vehicle fire required Engine 8 and Truck 1 to respond to New Rd. at 12:34 p.m.  A 1989 GMC truck had fully involved fire in the engine compartment. After extinguishment, damage was estimated at $2000.
